BACKGROUND

Here’s literally the best new thing in the world of theater this 2026! The Outsiders will be going on a roaring new tour as it hits the road and lights up over 40 major theaters across the US and Canada! It’s a coming of age epic that has blown away Broadway with four amazing wins at the 2024 Tony Awards. This production features a storyline based on the 1967 novel with the same name from novelist Kathleen Rowell. The Outsiders was later adapted into a film in 1983. In 2024, the Broadway adaptation made its debut in New York and blew away viewers and critics alike. This 2026, the production goes on tour for the first time.

THE PLOT

14 year old Ponyboy Curtis along with his “greaser” family explores the world greasers and upper middle class “socs.” A boy from Socs attacks Ponyboy and his friend Johnny stabs a socs boy named Bob. Ponyboy and Johnny run away to a church to hide but the place eventually catches fire. Ponyboy and Johnny saved the children inside the church, turning them to immediate heroes, but Johnny is gravely injured. A final battle between the geasers and socs ensue. AWARDS

This thrilling new musical has impressively earned numerous accoaldes and awards after debuting on Broadway. At the 2024 Tony Awards, The Ousiders bagged a total of four awards out of 12 nominations. The musical won the coveted Tony Award for Best Musical in addtion to creative awards like Best Direction, Best Lighting, and Best Sound Design. Over at the Outer Critics Circle Award, The Ousiders scored the award for Oustanding Lighting Design. Lastly, Brian McDevitt and Cody Spencer proved that they’re the creatives of the year as the bagged two more awards from the Drama Desk Awards for Best Lighting and Best Sound Design. Meanwhile, the official soundtrack was nominated at the 2025 Grammy Awards for Best Musical Theater Album. 

CREATIVE TEAM

The musical was brought to the stage by nonprofit orgnization La Jolla Playhouse. The Broadway production brought in amazing talents from across the theater and music world. The musical features music and lyrics by Jonathan Clay, Zach Chance, and Justin Levine. Meanwhile, the book is based on a story by Adam Rapp and Levine. The production is directed by Danya Taymor with choreography by Rick and Jeff Kuperman. The creative team also features work by Tony winning collective AMP for sceneography, Tony nominee Sarafina Bush for costume design, Tony winner Brian MacDevitt on lighting design, Tony winner Cody Spencer on sound design. THE CAST

There’s veterans and newcomers in this fresh cast for The Outsiders. Ponyboy Curtis is played by newcomer Nolan White who is making his stage debut with this production. Meanwhile, Johnny is played by Bonale Fambrini. Into the Woods and The Carole King Musical star Tyler Jordan Wesley plays the role of Dallas while Travis Roy Rogers makes his professional musical debut playing Darrel Curtis. The musical garnered amazing reviews from industry peers and theater critics. In Broadway World, the theatrical review had nothing but praises especially for the cast, “It’s hard for me to pick a standout from this cast because if this cast were an album, there would be no skips.” The Sleepless Critic was also all praises in their review, “Life can change on a dime and the mesmerizing manner in which they are presented are one of the greatest aspects of this amazing musical as well as how beautifully this musical brings out Hinson’s work about innocence and struggle in a remarkably new, unique and fitting manner.”
