Les Miserables at Orpheum Theatre San Francisco
“Les Misérables is powerful, enthralling and not miserable.” – The Rice Thresher
Do you hear the people sing? It’s the song of love, sacrifice, revolution, and redemption; it’s the song of an epic on the stage once more; it’s the song that you need to allow to overwhelm you; it’s a song imbued with gravitas and authenticity. It’s goosebump-inducing, jaw-dropping, and tear duct-jerking. It’s larger than life itself, it’s as rousing as ever, it’s vocals that can bring down any venue’s rafters. And for the love of Victor Hugo, you owe it to yourself to go see it.
The highly acclaimed, longest running show of London’s West End is returning to the stage this season – and at the end of the day, it is bound to become the master of the house once more.
That’s right, San Francisco – Claude Michel Schönberg, Alain Boublil, and Jean-Marc Natel’s theatrical masterpiece Les Misérables is coming to the Orpheum Theatre San Francisco – reimagined, refreshed, and ready to deliver a punch to the solar plexus as powerful as ever!

“A knockout! This new touring production of ‘Les Misérables’ is magnificent.” – Philadelphia Inquirer

SYNOPSIS
The multilayered tale, based on Victor Hugo’s novel, Les Misérables, follows the journey of French peasant Jean Valjean in the troubling times of revolution in France. After being imprisoned for a lengthy period for stealing a loaf of bread to feed a starving child, Valjean is released from prison on parole. After being shown an enormous kindness and mercy, he chooses to seek redemption by breaking his parole and starting a new life, in disguise. After achieving financial success, he adopts factory worker Fantine’s child, Cosette. She falls in love with Marius, a young man involved with a group of young idealists who attempt to overthrow the government and bring about revolution in France with a street barricade. In the years following his release, Valjean is actively pursued by police inspector Javert – who seeks the opposite of what Valjean is seeking – chastisement for breaking his parole.
At the very core of it, Les Misérables is a tale of redemption, sacrifice, forgiveness, vulnerability, and love, and celebrates the endurance and strength of the human spirit.
“Soaring solos, thundering choruses, and symphonic swells and crashes of oceanic proportions raise the audience’s hearts and arm hairs.” – CTX Live Theatre
