THE PLOT
In 1881, the cast of the brand new production of Hannibal were rehearsing at the prestigious Paris Opera House. The production experiences a multitude of difficulties due to the Phantom. Unless they give in to his demands, the new show will never see the light of day. His demands include putting the young and talented chorus girl Christine Daae as the lead soprano. Christine, delighted with her new role, shares to her friend that she has a mysterious tutor that she calls “Angel of Music.” Turns out that this angel was the Phantom and he has fallen in love with the young singer. However, things take a turn when Christine Daae falls in love with a young patron, Raoul. What will happen to the production now that the Phantom’s love is not reciprocated? ABOUT THE MUSICAL
Considered an all time classic, the Phantom of the Opera premiered in 1986 in London’s West End. The musical features the work of legendary composer and playwright Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Charles Hart. Later productions featured additional lyrics and story from Richard Stilgoe. Its original production featured soprano Sarah Brightman and film and stage superstar Michael Crawford. The musical eventually made its way to Broadway in 1988. The production achieved incredible commercial success, so much so that the Phantom of the Opera has been recorded to be the longest running Broadway musical of all time. The following year, the musical went on tour followed by another run in 1990. In 2025, the production of the Phantom of the Opera went on a North American tour for the first time since 2013.
