Beauty and The Beast, the musical, started out on Broadway back in 1994. There's no reason to sugarcoat this, it was forgotten by the success of the Lion King. Since that date, there have been different attempts to take the story back into the premium theater scene. After an amazing run in London's West End, and an extensive tour of Australia, this new version is getting a US tour. This 30th Anniversary production marks the first North American touring production in over 25 years. One of the shows will luckily be in San Francisco, California on Sunday 9th August 2026.

In previous iterations of the show, the design of the set and the colors of the costumes were both rather dark. This put a lot of weight on The Beast character. This revival is taking a completely different approach. The emphasis is more on Belle, as the story demands. This time around, the audience is greeted with thoughtfully designed backgrounds and colorful costumes that burst off the stage. When you pair that with the uplifting soundtrack, you can see why both the British and Australian crowds flocked to this revival. Forgive the spoilers, but the grand entrance that Belle's character and the different members of her French village make, provide the perfect contrast to The Beast's world. What happened in both the UK and Australia was that crowds were incredibly hooked by this point in the play. Things likely won't be any different this Sunday at Orpheum Theatre and the entire US tour for that matter. Gaston's entrance and musical performance tend to be loved by fans. It's really Belle who makes this story go though, and for this US Tour they've picked a great actress for the role - Kyra Belle Johnson brings the beloved heroine to life alongside Fergie L. Philippe as Beast and Stephen Mark Lukas as Gaston. By the end of the show, you'll be singing and dancing as you stroll out of Orpheum Theatre.

At these theater shows, it's essential to choose the right seats. They will dictate the view that you have of what's happening on stage.
